What is a blockchain?

A blockchain is a shared public record of transactions, kept by many computers instead of one company.

New transactions are grouped into blocks and added to the chain. Once they have enough confirmations, they are extremely hard to change. That is why crypto payments generally cannot be reversed, so a payment sent to the wrong address is usually gone.
