What is a tola of gold?

A tola is a traditional unit of weight for gold, equal to about 11.66 grams.

Tolas are widely used for gold in India, Pakistan, Nepal and the Gulf. In Bangladesh a similar unit is called a vori or bhori, which is also about 11.66 grams.

Gold prices are often quoted per tola in these places, so to compare with a price per gram, divide the tola price by 11.66.

Example

If a tola of 24K gold costs 300,000, one gram costs about 25,729 (300,000 ÷ 11.66).
