What is a pavan of gold?
A pavan, also called a sovereign, is a unit of weight for gold equal to 8 grams.
Pavan is the everyday unit for gold in Sri Lanka and South India. When a jeweller quotes a price per pavan, it usually means 8 grams of 22K gold, but always ask which purity the price is for.
