What is the spot price of gold?
The spot price is the current world market price for buying a metal for immediate delivery.
Spot prices are for large, wholesale trades. A shop or dealer almost never sells at this price: they add duty, taxes, their own costs and a profit. Shops also buy from you below the spot price, so the difference is part of the cost of owning physical gold.
