About these prices
- Why is the price in my local shop different?
- This page shows the world silver price converted into your currency. Shops add import duty, taxes, making charges and their own margin, so their prices are usually higher, and they pay less when you sell.
- What do 999 and 925 mean?
- They show purity in parts per thousand. 999 is pure silver, often sold as bars and coins. 925 is sterling silver, which is 92.5% silver and is common in jewellery. Read more about sterling silver.
- Why does silver move more than gold?
- Silver is a smaller market and much of it is used in industry, so its price can swing more sharply than gold in both directions.
- How often does it update?
- Every few minutes while silver trades, from Monday to Friday. At weekends the price stays at Friday's close.
