What is an exchange rate?

An exchange rate is how much of one currency you get for another.

If the US dollar rate in your country goes up, each dollar buys more of your currency, which makes imports and foreign travel more expensive for you. Rates move with trade, interest rates, central bank decisions and confidence in the economy.

Example

If 1 US dollar equals 300 rupees, then 100 dollars is 30,000 rupees.
